La sala que en el siglo pasado fue ocupada por la Cámara
de Senadores ahora está dedicada a la galería de Presidentes,
desde el primero: el Mariscal Sucre, hasta Carlos Diego Mesa Gisbert.
Complétase esta galería con algunas prendas personales,
armas, bastones de ceremonia y uniformes de los mandatarios.
En la testera de la sala se alza un gigantesco busto del Libertador
tallado en una sola pieza de algarrobo por el artista Mauro Núñez,
flanqueado por las tres banderas bolivianas, la de 1825, la de 1826
y la actual.
Otra bandera, la última que flameó en Antofagasta
el 14 de febrero de 1879 y que fue arriada por la muchachita Genoveva
Ríos antes de que fuera ultrajada por los invasores chilenos,
se halla guardada y exhibida en una vitrina en la parte baja de
esta sala.
Condecoraciones, bastones de ceremonia y prendas personales de
algunos mandatarios están a la vista de los visitantes. Atraen
también su atención en la sala baja maquetas en relieve
y a escala del Lago Titicaca y de la ciudad de La Paz y sus contornos,
en 1850. |

Presidents gallery

The hall that in the past century was used as the Chamber
of Senators, now is dedicated to the Gallery of Presidents, from Marshal
Antonio José de Sucre to Evo Morales Aima. Some personal belongings,
weapons, symbols of authority and uniforms of the different heads of state
are kept in this gallery.
A giant bust of Liberator Simón Bolívar carved in one piece of
carob tree by the artist Mauro Nuñez is located at the head of the hall,
flanked by the three Bolivian flags, the 1825 flag, the 1826 flag and the present
one.
The last Bolivian flag that fluttered in Antofagasta, on February 14, 1879 which
was lowered by a little girl named Genoveva Rios before the port was occupied
by the Chilean invaders, is kept and exhibited in a glass case in this room.
Decorations, symbols of authority and personal belongings of some heads of state
can be seen by the visitors.
Visitors can admire a scale relief model of Titicaca Lake and the city of La
Paz and its surroundings, dated 1850, are kept in the lower room. |
